Commissioner Haggerty on the KKK & MABA

Don't really know how to set this one up other than to say that I ran into Commissioner Haggerty the other day at Commissioner's Court and had a chance to ask him about his comments regarding the Mexican American Bar Association & MABA.

So, if the organization is primarily comprised of WASPs (white anglo-saxon protestant) it is more than likely a racist organization but if the membership is other than WASP it is in no way a racist organization.... just checking.

So how many non-Mexican Latino members does MABA currently claim? How many Mexican (background) members... How many WASPs...

You make a good point in the video discussing the idea that these groups exist to promote advocacy of a particular ethnicity or race. Whether anyone would care to admit it or not, minorities are still subject to vast amounts of institutional racism that is left over from the time when Brown and Black alike were discriminated against through legal means. There is nothing wrong with groups like these advocating for the progress of a segment of the population that is fighting an uphill battle to be "on par" with the Anglo majority of the population.

Furthermore, it's important to note that I'm not stating that Anglo individuals in the community, or nation for that matter, are racist or that I haven't had the opportunity to access social mobility. What I am stating is that if each race/ethnicity were compared to each other, a gap clearly exists because Anglos had a head start that lasted for about 200 years. That's a big deal.

Andre, the day any cultural, race- or ethnicity based advocacy organization like National Council for la Raza or the Mexican-American "whatever organization" or the United Negro College Fund or the Anti-Defamation League (they're Jews for the uninformed) or the Black El Paso Democrats, or even the very Catholic Knights of Columbus go around persecuting people, attempting to deprive them of their right to *life*, liberty, and pursuit of happiness, that's the day said organization is officially racist! So point out to me any non-white organization that seeks to harm others based on race, national origin, ethnicity, gender, sexual preference, or even socio-economic status, and I will agree with you that it is indeed a racist organization. Otherwise, stop standing in the embarrassing moron corner with Haggerty and embrace his reverse-discrimination shtick!
