Texas Civil Rights Projects Seeks Nominees

WANTED: LOCAL CIVIL RIGHTS HEROES

Paso del Norte Civil Rights Project is seeking nominations from the community for the 2011 Fiesta Fronteriza Civil Rights Awards.

Who do YOU think deserves recognition for his or her work promoting racial, economic, and social justice in the Paso del Norte region?

Help us honor our local civil rights heroes by nominating individuals or organizations who foster equality, secure justice, ensure diversity, and strengthen communities.

We are looking for nominees for the following awards:

George A. McAlmon, Jr. Labor and Civil Rights Award
For those who have stood up for the rights of working people in El Paso / Ciudad Juárez

Esther Chávez Cano Fighting Violence Award
For those who have stood up to structural violence, both in the house and on the streets, in El Paso / Ciudad Juárez

Rubén Salazar Exposing Truth Journalism Award
For those who have struggled to expose inequities and injustices in the El Paso / Ciudad Juárez region

and

Albert Armendáriz, Sr. Lifetime Achievement in Human Rights Award
For those who have recently passed away and who contributed greatly to the human rights of persons throughout the El Paso / Ciudad Juárez region
