Yanez Civic Participation Questioned by City Rep Byrd

Lets face it, the action in the May 2013 municipal elections is going to be in the districts with open seats, which are districts 2 and 7, currently held by termed-out Reps Byrd and Ortega.

Districts 3 and 4 are up for election but City Reps Acosta and Robinson seem to be in the drivers' seats for re-election barring any major campaign malfunction. I should note, that I don't know if Rep Acosta is ruling out a bid for mayor but since I haven't heard about it yet, I assume its not going to happen. Plus she still has another term left, so if there's an Acosta bid, it probably won't be until the next election.

City Rep Byrd has called in to question some of the information that was on District 2 candidate Getsemani Yanez's bio previously posted on The LionStar Blog. Byrd alleges that much of his participation in the organizations listed was to "pad his political resume". She alleges that nothing has really come of his participation in any of the organizations listed.

Rep Byrd also indicated that he was either removed, resigned from, or participated very little in the organizations.

If you recall, Yanez and Byrd were initially both supporters of Beto O'Rourke before Yanez switched sides and left the campaign to work with Two Ton for Congressman Reyes' campaign. Two Ton had previously worked for both O'Rourke and Byrd's campaigns prior to them switching sides and going with another firm for the congressional election earlier this year.

Yanez indicated that he had in fact resigned from two of the organizations listed but indicated that the reason he resigned from the Greater El Paso Civic, Convention, and Tourism Advisory Board is because City Representative Byrd was trying to have him removed from the board. Yanez stated, "Susie was trying to get me off."

"Because he wasn't attending" Byrd replied when asked if she was trying to remove Yanez from the board.

Yanez says he has letters of resignation from the boards he has left and indicated that he felt it was inappropriate to sit on some of the boards after he was an announced candidate for the District 2 seat that is being vacated by Representative Byrd. Byrd has not indicated who, if anyone, she is supporting in the election to replace her on city council.

How do you interpret this piece as taking anyone's side? If you had the goods you wouldn't talk about it, you'd spill it. You sound like a big mouth I know from FB that suddenly disappeared. I haven't forgotten you...

Susie Byrd and the rest of her Shapleigh cult are showing just how much they hate Latinos and the essence of Latino culture. And please spare me the two of her best friends, Steve ORTEGA and Veronica ESCOBAR are two if her best Mexican friends. Oh and you, but that's because you have a very popular bully pulpit feared by many who as much as they might hate you or what you say, no one can bring you own because you truly do speak truth to power in this town regardless of clique, faction or party, you're one strong, to be feared vato in this town and many of us look up to you. But these great white liberals like Susie and her self-loathing latino friends deem the essence of Mexican culture to be inferior and the root of El Paso's problems. They want a vision of progress that makes them feel comfortable with something less foreign. Just read her and Escobar's Playboy interview where they diss poor people and the Ft Bliss troops which is clearly a slam on black soldiers. And in this case, she wants her liberal white friend, Tolbert, to replace her so that city council and the city and even the schools fit in her white people's vision. I know you like Susie and will not want to air such harsh criticisms of her, but I think its time she sees how many perceive her and respond. Basta with her efforts to white was us,

Susie is far from stupid and has nothing really to lose by going after Yanez. He is a nice guy and gaining more confidence as he gets older. But keep in mind Susie has turned out to be a good politician because she has a lot of enemeies while her peers Vero, Steve, Beto and Jose continue playing the game that should land her a gig in the near future. Susie loves Dist. 2 and knowing her grit she only wants the best for that area and if she thinks Yanez is not the person for the job, she can say or do whatever the hell she wants and believe me she is not losing sleep over this one. I don't agree with everything Susie has voted on or supported, but I been around enough politicians to know that Susie is smarter than the average vote getter and is probably on the mark with this effort to discuss the facts about Yanez' resume
